With all of the rumors and health risks related to foods, who knows what is good for you anymore. They say a glass of red wine a day is good for you, but it also increases your risk of breast cancer. There are so many risks and alerts on different types of foods that no one knows what to eat that is good for you. The truth is that some people with special risks do need to watch the foods they eat, like fish, coffee, soy, eggs, and wine. Scientists agree that you should not give up fish because it is the best source of animal protein that you can get. Studies show that those who ate four fish meals a week lowered their risk with heart disease and stroke by about 30%. Studies also show that many fish contain mercury that can cause brain damage, so pregnant women should be careful with the types of fish they eat, such as shark, swordfish, tilefish, and king mackerel.

Are Antioxidants Nature's Fountain of Youth?
Foods like oranges and broccoli are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants slow down cell damage and may improve immune function and lower cancer risks. Antioxidants have chemicals called phytochemicals that fight disease. Antioxidants work by capturing unstable molecules that are a byproduct of oxygen. These molecules damage your body’s cells and DNA. You can help slow down this process by eating foods that are high in antioxidants. Examples of foods high in antioxidants are apricots, cantaloupes, red and yellow peppers, sweet potatoes, carrots, mangoes, broccoli, spinach, guavas, papayas, oranges, strawberries grapefruits, tomatoes, wheat germ, seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, whole grain products, peanut butter, brazil nuts, seafood, poultry, eggs, pasta, clams, beef liver, milk, and tofu.
